Close-up of my desk

For now, permanent markers will do as labels. Not the look I am going for but I will find it sometime!

Oops...didn't realize how blurry this was but you get the picture. I love...LoVe....LOVE distressed furniture!!!
Instead of keeping all those magazines, I tear out the page I like and keep it in a file for future reference. I found these wooden pant hangers at Target for 2/$1. Just added ribbon to jazz them up a little.
My trash can is an old water pail. And there is my awesome Target bag!!!! The frame on the wall is made of buttons. I used a hanger to hold register tape for notes/ideas/ lists/etc.
The top of the desk was so blah I had to add something using a paint pen. The black thingy on the wall is a vintage matchbox holder. Since I don't use matches regularly, I put my pencils in it! It is HeAvY...cast iron I guess!
This lazy susan ($.25) was ugly brown until it met a friend of mine. I call him SprayPaint Master. Now I can turn the the ribbon as I search for the perfect color. I found the mailbox at GW for $1. It has my scented candles in there. The flower pot has been painted with chalkboard paint and I have put...well...chalk in it! :-0)

This basket was in my daughters' bathroom but I switched with theem bc this matches my comforter! Those magazines are AWESOME!!! I can't tear out my favorite pages because every page is awesome! I had the metal basket in my classroom but decided I could use it better at home.

I am sure I will change things around. I am always tweaking stuff!!!!
Thanks for looking! Happy decorating!

I have an Office/Craft room/desk

Kelly's Corner hosts a new room every Friday. I have admired all the craft rooms and I will admire I have longed for one for a long time. With 2 teenagers and a 5 year old son there is no room for a craft area. I have been saving magazine articles, pictures, and storage containers hopping one day I would have a craft room as cool as the bloggers in blogland! WELL...I was inspired to figure out a way and work with what I have. I found a desk for $20. This isn't the actual desk but I forgot to take a before pic! Lovely....huh?????

Remember my bedroom before? It has been in this spot for 3 years!! Hubby wasn't thrilled with changing it. (Furniture was HeAvY!!!) WEll....I needed an area for my new office/craft room/desk so I rearranged. (As I sit on the heating pad!!!)

Here's our bedroom after....

As you can see, I now have room for a desk and the room still feels roomy!!!

I painted the desk black and then destressed it! Meg at ,whatever, has the black tiered basket full of ribbon and since I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE her blog I have been on the lookout for one! (Forgive the Star Wars toy and chapstick....Zak was helping!) The containers were on clearance at Walmart for $5. I have glue and markers in 2 of them and the third is empty (for now). I need to label them but haven't decided how. I found the lamp shade at a garage sale for $.50 and already had the white compartment thingy.
Notice the chair???? I know...stealing from a child. BUT I needed a chair!!!! I will find another one!!! I am so excited!!! I can pay bills, make crafts, or just play!!! I am adding a quote to the top of the desk but I will have to show that another day (It isn't finished.)

To the bloggers that I have mentioned...I give you full credit but I have no idea how to put your link in the text! So sorry!!! You are welcome to tell me how.... :-$

Metamorphosis Monday

My first garage sale of the year! Didn't find much but I found some neat stuff. I have been looking for a chair for Zak's desk and this was perfect. Needed some work but it was the right size (a tad smaller than a normal chair) and price ($3)!

The chair after.
A few coats of white paint, a little distressing and a new chair for the desk.

Side note....the dresser in the background is also a Metamorphosis Monday item but I can't find a before pic. It was my husband's childhood dresser. I spray painted the outside red and chalkboard paint on the drawer fronts. Added a few knobs and drawings and a fun place to store boring clothes. :-)

Horses, Father's Day, and Cousin Fun

I am married to the most amazing man ever! He is the best daddy! We are blending our family and at times it is very difficult! Only by God's grace have we made it 6 years! My sweet family celebrating Father's Day.

The girls made dinner all by themselves. It was very special. Pork chops, mac and cheese, and veges. They even set the table!

~~~HORSES~~~The family having a photo op.
The Holsteds invited us to celebrate their sons birthday. They had 3 horses for the kids to ride. My girls enjoyed it....Zak....not so much!!!
Listening to Chad explain how to ride a horse. (Lovin the boots and shorts.)
Wow...what's that smell????
Okay...this isn't so bad after all!
Fun time with my cousin. They played in the water hose taking turns spraying each other.
I had so much fun with Ryder. He is such a sweet boy! Wish we lived closer but at least we are only 30 minutes instead of 3 days away!!!
The haircut conversation:
Mommy: Daddy, it's time for Zak's haircut.
Daddy: It's your turn. I did it last time.
Mommy: Ok, but if I get it cut...it will be CUT!!!! (He likes it long and I like it short.)
So off to get it CUT! See the before? He has been called a girl 4 times in the past 3 weeks. 4 times too many for this momma!!! That is his "bribe". He got to spend his $10 on a toy IF he was well behaved during the cut.
During....
That is a LOT of hair!!!
After....see that smile! He did sooooo well. He got the toy and I got my boy!!!! (By the way...he picked out that cut from a book.) Tomorrow we will try the mohawk.
Storm
A storm blew in on Friday. My husband was able to leave work early so where do we go...Wal-Mart of course! AS we were looking at tornado books with our son an employee says to make our way to the back of the storm due to a tornado warning. Okay...that's all I needed to hear. AS we "made our way" the electricity went off, window was BlOwInG, and the rain was pounding. Then we hear..."all customers and employees get to the back of the store immediatly. Leave your carts and take cover." Ok...so I am panicking a little. We get back there and as you can see it was wall to wall people (and carts...hmmm...guess they didnlt hear the same announcement). We were there 15 minutes or so and then finished our shopping. We were in for a big surprise when we left. WOW...the damage was BAD!!! Trees toppled over. Now these were mature trees not baby ones! Limbs were everywhere. One store lost it's roof which blew into the buisness across the street snapping 3 light poles in the process. We got home and our house was fine. Thank you God!! Our kids were safe and sound. Zak asked why God allows storms. I said so he can show us something. He will work through the bad stuff too. He will use it to make a difference. How do you explain that stuff to a 5 year old. Anyhooo...all is well except my poor husband has been working A LOT due to the storm. (Good paycheck though :-)).
See the lady giving me the stink eye? No idea why...well I guess it is funny for someone to take a picture while telling her husband "I have to post this on Facebook".
Johnson County: Local Emergency Manager reported extensive storm damage to the city of Clarksville and the eastern portion of the county. Debris has been reported across several Hwy 64, Hwy 21, Hwy 103 and Hwy 315. Power lines are down in multiple parts of the county. An estimated five homes with damage.
Pictures of damage from town (copied from Maranda's Facebook...thanks
See the mailbox?? Even took some of the sidewalk with it!
So we lost power...big surprise and Zak wanted chicken noosdle soup. No microwave....oven....even kettle. Let's see....candles give off heat....so several candles.....IT WORKED!!!!! It was HoT!!!! I heated 2 bowls for zak and 1 bowl of spaghetti o's for Kourt.
Zak's trip to the Doctor
He had to have a physical before he could start Kindergarten. We LOVE our doctor. He was so funny. Here's a portion of their conversation:
Dr: So Zak do you have any plans for this summer?
Zak: No
Dr: No backpacking through Europe?
Zak: No, my back pack is full. (It isn't really but he had to say something)
Dr: Well watch those European women...they don't shave their underarms.
Zak: I don't have any hair under my arms.
This went on for a while and I was laughing so hard I had tears! We just love our Doctor!!! He is fine. Weighs 45 lbs and is 45 in tall. Alan said he is a square!! Zak was terrified that he would get a shot. When he saw the receptionist he said I don't want a shot. When he saw the nurse he said he didn't want a shot about 10 times. When the Dr. came in that was the first thing that came out of his mouth and then about every other minute! He said Zak was ready for Kinder, a little OCD, but ready. Wonder where he gets that from?!?!?!?
One more item to check off the list of readiness for Kinder.
kitchen window
This window has been a constant challenge. I could never find the right treatment. I think I finally found one! What do you think? Different but that is what I like!! Those are 2 hankies I got for $1 at a consignment (still have 2 more to play with) and the plant was a gift from my secret pal at school.
Thrift redos
My husband's job can be messy at times and his shoes are AlWaYs tracking stuff into the house. I needed a place for him to keep his shoes and contain the mess. Had this old tray that didn't match my decor (imagine that) so I painted it.
Sorry for the sideways view! Now he has a place for his work shoes and I have a gentle reminder for visitors and their shoes.
Redesign without spending a dime!!I
It was time for a change. Does anyone else go through this insane times. All of a sudden I think..."Hmm, I need to rearrange something". My family runs when I get in this mood. Zak didn't run fast enough!
The Before.....
His dresser. It was my husband's as a child. I painted it red and chalkboard paint. Got this from another blogger...can't remember who...here's your credit!!!!!!!!
His bed and mess! This is real life. Be patient...you will see the "staged" version!
His bookshelves full of books and toys! I have OCD so having a place for everything thrills my heart!
AFTER......Moved his bed and bookshelves.
His desk area....oops...got the closet in the shot.His bed with a "headboard".
Now you see his dresser as you walk into his room. Not as distracting as seeing full bookcases!
